Tailor made solution suits fast growing high-tech company

It is always satisfying in business to come up with a solution for a client that you have a great deal of respect for. It has been my great pleasure to work with highly successful North Shore software developer, Zeald.com.

We worked with them to relocate to a high profile building in Albany as their growth rate had them bursting at the seams at their previous premises.

As a particularly go-ahead company employing a number of young software developers, Zeald.com needed office space that not only would accommodate their fast growth well into the future, but was a dynamic workplace.

Zeald.com’s chief executive David Kelly says it was critical that their new office space would align with their values, which primarily encompass a philosophy that team comes first.

I explored the options for Zeald.com of buying versus leasing space, and it turned out that for their needs a leased building was the best option.

The company’s directors were bold enough to go with a plan to lease a significantly larger space than they currently had, and lease extra space that they didn’t immediately need but could grow into in the future.

Zeald.com shifted from 250 square metre offices to close to 1,000 square metres.

And to fit their philosophy, we made a lot or provision for extra amenities including a large staff room and a great kitchen with a good espresso machine.

As the Zeald.com staff are glued to computer screens for many hours on end, the directors were keen to also build in facilities that would enable staff to “get the blood flowing”. So we set up spaces for a table tennis table, console games, and one of the more energetic of the computer games, the Nintendo Wii that requires a bit of running around and energy. We also put in exercise equipment and secure bike racks.

Zeald.com is for me a great example of working out a tailor made strategy for a property lease; organising terms and conditions, office space, facilities and a fit-out that will add tangible value to a business, both financially and through creating a great environment for staff that will no doubt greatly assist productivity.

Perhaps the crowning glory is that Zeald.com has also got naming rights to the building in a prime spot by the State Highway One motorway at Albany. Look out for it next time you’re heading north.

  1. Hi Nigel

I agree entirely. One of Zeald.com’s selection criteria for this Albany building was the signage opportunity.

Their CEO, David Kelly reasoned that the signage exposure they are achieving is equivalent to tens of thousands of dollars spent on print media. Every time a motorist driving past on the adjacent motorway notices the sign again the message gets reinforced, unlike print media where the spend is rewarded only once.

  2. It certainly is a fantastic site. Every time I drive north I look at that building. The signage stands out like the proverbial. And it’s only a couple of minutes from their old bulding, but such a better location. Good work.
